Patti Heimlich, LMT, CD(DONA), ICCE, MTI

Patti has been a licensed massage therapist since 1994 and has specialized in working with pregnant women since 1998. She has attended over 200 births as a doula/massage therapist. Patti attends births in the Houston Medical Center, Southwest Houston, Memorial City and Sugar Land.

Patti is certified in pregnancy massage, labor massage, postpartum massage, and infant massage, as well as being certified in medical massage. Patti is a certified doula through three organizations, and a certified childbirth educator through ICEA. Patti is also a certified prenatal & postpartum fitness instrutor.

Patti is also a licensed massage therapy instructor and massage continuing education instructor approved through the Texas Department of State Health Services. She is also a DONA Birth Doula Trainer.

It is Patti's goal to enable all women to feel good about their birth experience. Patti draws on her education, hands and most of all her heart to support women through this amazing experience.

  • Lauren Kaplan, LMT, Doula

    Lauren has been a licensed massage therapist since 2002, and became certified in pregnancy massage and infant massage shortly thereafter. In 2005 she received further training in labor massage and has attended numerous births. In 2006 she completed birth doula training to further her knowledge and skills. In 2007 Lauren received certification as a Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness Instructor. Lauren is presently enrolled at the Clayton College where she is working on her Bachelor’s degree in Natural Health.

    Lauren is a Massage Therapy Continuing Education Instructor and teaches classes in pregnancy, labor, postpartum and infant massage.

    Lauren has recently given birth to her first child, a daughter Eden, who was delivered at home. Lauren’s mother is a midwife and Lauren is following in her footsteps. Lauren has a distinguished background in dance, dance instruction, and choreography.

    Amber Schledewitz, BS, LMT, NCBTMB

    We welcome Amber to Houston Pregnancy Massage & Doula Care. After completing her Bachelors degree in Psychobiology, she graduated Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1997. Amber went on to complete a one-thousand hour course in massage therapy at the Omaha School of Massage Therapy in 1998 where she was licensed in the State of Nebraska. Amber moved to Houston in 2006 and received her Massage Therapy License in Texas. She is Nationally Board Certified through (NCBTMB). Amber is trained in pregnancy, labor preparation, and postpartum massage as well as being certified in premature, newborn and infant massage. She is also a certified prenatal and postpartum fitness instructor.

    Amber is a Licensed Massage Therapy Continuing Education Instructor and teaches classes in the basics of pregnancy massage, labor preparation massage, postpartum massage, and infant massage.

    Soyla Peden, LMT, Doula

    Soyla received her massage therapy training in 2005 from Texas School of Massage in Katy. She is trained in pregnancy, labor, and postpartum massage as well as premature, newborn, and infant massage. Soyla has intensive training as a birth doula and is Patti Heimlich’s back-up. She has attended numerous la leche league meetings and is very knowledgeable in the art of breastfeeding.

    Soyla has two daughters age 24 and 21. Before she became pregnant with her first daughter, Soyla planned to become a midwife and was attending births and meetings with a midwife. When she discovered that she was pregnant, she decided to put her career on hold. Now that her daughters are grown, she wants to fulfill her original goals – but instead of becoming a midwife, she has decided that becoming a doula would be a better use of her knowledge and skills. Soyla is passionate about her work and is ready to share her mothering spirit.

    Ruby Lee, BA, LMT

    Ruby a native Houstonian, received her BA degree in Sociology and a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of Texas. Massage Therapy has been a life long interest. She started at a young age massaging family members and while in college she found herself massaging friends. It was in her last year of college that she decided to pursue massage therapy as a career. She has been a licensed massage therapist since 1996. Ruby is trained in pregnancy, labor preparation, and postpartum massage as well as premature, newborn, and infant massage.

    Maria Garreton, CNM

    Maria comes to us from Santiago, Chile where she practices as a nurse midwife. She has been a nurse midwife for 27 years and delivers 200+ babies a year. Maria enjoys being a mother and believes her four children are her most precious gift. She comes to Houston with her husband Alejandro Corvalan, MD, PhD who is here for a year working on cancer research at M.D. Anderson.

    Maria plans to spend her year in Houston with Patti training to be a certified birth doula and gaining the knowledge necessary to begin a birth doula practice when she returns to Chile. Maria will be assisting Patti in beginning an inner city birth doula program in Houston and will be traveling with Patti to Costa Rica to teach a birth doula workshop in Spanish.

    We are excited and honored to have Maria and look forward to learning from her vast knowledge of birth.
